Eons ago
Mighty leviathans lived
Massive as can be!
Each footstep
an Earthquake
A tempest at sea
Heads above the cloudline
sight beyond the horizon
a vision of 3000 miles
A million eyes they could rely on
Each groan that emanated
from deepest belly of fire
ejected from toothless mouths
vast as canyons
hair like barb-wire
Giants of Earth
More grand than the heavens
Companions of centuries
Their combined age:
One billion eleven
They lived on forever
until one day
They flew off into space
No one knows why they went away
But let me tell you this:
They still reside in my dreams
Not only monsters of the mind
It's more than it seems
For they and I became one
Zeus's sons of the night
to haunt all the children
to cause a great fright
And on Halloween
we appear.
